Siraj, Samson Out Indian Team for Champions

The Indian team for the upcoming Champions Trophy and the three-match ODI series against England in February has been announced. Captain Rohit Sharma and Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar spoke to the media today. Shubman Gill has been appointed as the vice-captain for the ODIs. Mohammed Siraj and Sanju Samson have not made it to the 15-member squad.

The team includes Rohit Sharma, Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Shami, and Harshdeep Singh.

However, Jasprit Bumrah will not play in the England ODIs. His fitness will be assessed in February. If he is fit, he will play in the tournament. For the upcoming England ODI series, Harshith Rana has been selected as Bumrah's replacement.

Karun Nair did not receive a call-up. Recently, in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he scored 752 runs in 7 innings, leading to speculation that he might be selected for the ODI tournaments. However, the selectors did not show much interest. Chief selector Agarkar explained that the batsmen in the squad all have an average of 40, which made it difficult to select Nair.

Telugu batsman Nitesh Kumar Reddy, who performed well in the recent Australia series, also did not make it to the ODI squad. Agarkar mentioned that Shubman Gill had captained the team in the ODI series against Sri Lanka and received positive feedback from the dressing room, which is why he has been appointed as the vice-captain.
