The death toll in the fire at a ski resort hotel in Turkey has risen to 66, with the number of injured reaching 51. The tragic incident occurred at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu Province. The fire broke out at 3:30 a.m. in the 12-story hotel. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
During the incident, some guests attempted to escape their rooms using bed sheets and blankets. Approximately 234 guests were estimated to have been staying in the hotel at the time. A skiing instructor reported that the fire erupted while everyone was asleep, forcing them to rush outside. The thick smoke in the hotel rooms made it difficult for guests to locate fire escapes.
The fire destroyed the roof and top floors of the hotel. The Grand Kartal Hotel, which is located in the Koroglu Mountains, 300 kilometers from Istanbul, has a total of 161 rooms. The ski resort was fully booked due to the ongoing semester break for schools.
Emergency services, including 30 fire trucks and 28 ambulances, were dispatched to the site to control the blaze and assist the victims.
