Trump Proposes IVF Coverage Amid Abortion Controversy

At a rally in Potterville of Michigan former President Donald Trump proposed covering the costs of IVF for all Americans if re elected. He suggested that either the government or insurance companies would handle the expenses but did not clarify the funding method.

This proposal comes amid scrutiny of his reproductive rights stance particularly after the Supreme Court’s 2022 ruling that reduced federal abortion protections.

Trump’s support for IVF follows an Alabama court ruling that classified frozen embryos as children causing some IVF clinics to stop services. Trump advocated for IVF coverage and promised that new parents could deduct major newborn expenses from their taxes.

His position on abortion has changed over the years from being very pro choice in 1999 to pro-life in 2011 and he controversially suggested punishment for women seeking abortions in 2016. Trump has criticized Florida’s six week abortion ban indicating potential opposition. As Trump and Democratic VP Kamala Harris campaign in key states Harris warned that a second Trump term could threaten reproductive rights.
