According to a report released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Monday, the global population is projected to grow by 71 million in 2024, reaching 8.09 billion by the start of the new year. Compared to 2023, population growth in 2024 has slightly declined, registering a growth rate of 0.9%. The report estimates that by January 2025, the world population will grow by another 75 million, with an average of 4.2 births and 2.0 deaths occurring globally every second.
In 2024, the U.S. population grew by 2.6 million, with an estimated total of 341 million by the new year. By January 2025, it is projected that there will be one birth every 9 seconds and one death every 9.4 seconds in the U.S. Additionally, one international migrant is expected to add to the U.S. population every 23.2 seconds, resulting in a net population increase of one person every 21.2 seconds.
During the 2020s, the U.S. population grew by nearly 9.7 million, reflecting a growth rate of 2.9%. This rate is lower compared to the 7.4% growth observed in the 2010s, marking the slowest growth since the 1930s.
