Opinion: Lalu Prasad Yadav's Nonsensical Talk

The thumb rule for some politicians is that to create headlines in news columns, one must at least make a nonsensical statement when there is nothing significant and substantial to discuss.

Lalu Prasad Yadav made a statement asserting that Narendra Modi is not a true Hindu because he didn't undergo tonsure and shave when his mother passed away.

It is true that the majority of Hindus follow that as a part of their ceremonial ritual. However, that doesn't mean one needs to adhere to it. The rituals vary from place to place, family to family, and gotra to gotra, and that is the beauty of Sanatana Dharma. It's a religion of convenience and a human-friendly way of life.

Considering that perspective, Lalu Prasad Yadav's statement doesn't impact the electoral choices of Hindus for BJP if he made it with that in mind. The statement simply garners attention in news columns, and other than that, it holds little significance.

There were times when Lalu Prasad Yadav was criticized by opposition parties, stating that he is not a true human being because he allegedly eaten away animal fodder (a scam of those days). But that doesn't mean that he admitted to it, nor did the entire world see him as an animal.

Opposition party leaders often make statements for effect. Similarly, Lalu also made a statement against Narendra Modi, but it carries no real impact other than filling a news column.
