The Election Commission has moved to transfer two top police officials in Andhra Pradesh. The Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena, confirmed this action.
The EC's order transferred P Sitaramanjaneyulu who served as the Director General of Police for Intelligence.
Similarly Kanthi Rana Tata, who is the Commissioner of Police in Vijayawada was also transferred. Both officers were instructed to hand over their responsibilities to their immediate subordinates.
The EC further stated that these officers should not be given any election related tasks until the conclusion of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state.
These transfers followed a recent incident where stones were thrown at Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in Vijayawada.
The Commission instructed the Chief Secretary to present a list of three IPS officers for consideration by Wednesday afternoon.
These actions come ahead of the elections scheduled for May 13 covering 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana and 25 Lok Sabha seats along with 175 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh.
