Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah declared that a Special Investigative Team (SIT) will look into complaints of alleged sexual abuse against Prajwal Revanna, who is the grandson of JDS chief HD Deve Gowda.
Prajwal is running for re-election to the Hassan Lok Sabha seat under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Reports suggest he has left for Germany.
The decision was made after Nagalakshmi Choudhary, head of the State Women's Commission, wrote to the CM and state police chief about the allegations.
According to the Karnataka Mahila Dourjanya Virodhi Vedike which filed the complaint, the videos allegedly show Prajwal Revanna engaging in sexual abuse and coercion with multiple women circulated in Hassan district and on social media.
The incident has stirred controversy with Congress leaders seeking answers from JDS and BJP who are in alliance for the polls.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar demanded clarification from BJP and JDS leaders due to the allegations against Deve Gowda's grandson.
Prajwal Revanna previously filed a case against Naveen Gowda by claiming the videos were deep fake.
He also secured a court order against media houses from publishing "defamatory' content about him. Such injunctions against media are common in Bengaluru courts often involving politicians.
