Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis refuted Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut's claims that top BJP leaders conspired against their own party leader, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, to ensure his defeat in the Nagpur Lok Sabha elections.
Fadnavis dismissed Raut's allegations suggesting Raut needed mental treatment and criticizing his article writing.
Speaking to the media, Fadnavis on Raut’s allegations said, “I have repeatedly said not to ask me questions about Sanjay Raut. I don’t speak about people who write articles after smoking marijuana. I think he is in London, where there is good mental treatment available. He should take the appropriate medications."
Raut, in Shiv Sena's mouthpiece 'Saamana' alleged that Fadnavis campaigned for Gadkari only after realizing Gadkari could not be defeated.
He claimed that BJP leaders Modi, Shah and Fadnavis tried to sabotage Gadkari's campaign and that Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde spent large sums to defeat NCP candidates.
Raut also suggested that UP CM Yogi Adityanath might be replaced if Modi and Shah remained in power.
Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrasekhar Bawankule called Raut 'delusional' by emphasizing the BJP's unity and priority of nation over self.
He accused Raut of factional politics and challenged him to write about his own political ambitions in 2019.
Congress candidate Vikas Thakre criticized Raut for previously praising Gadkari and claimed his comments were inappropriate and against the alliance's principles, urging Raut to address issues with BJP directly.
