Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced new infrastructure projects worth Rs 29400 crore in Maharashtra ahead of the state elections.
On July 13 he laid the foundation stones for several road, railway and port projects.
He emphasized Maharashtra's crucial role in India's development aiming to make Mumbai a global financial hub.
Key projects include the Thane-Borivali tunnel costing Rs 16600 crore and the Goregaon Mulund Link Road at Rs 6300 crore.
“I aim to use the power of Maharashtra to transform it into an economic powerhouse of the world; Make Mumbai the fintech capital of the world,” Modi said.
Additionally, a multimodal cargo terminal in Navi Mumbai will boost logistics and employment. Modi highlighted the Vadhavan port project expected to create over 10 lakh jobs.
He also expressed aspirations for Maharashtra to lead in tourism, medical tourism and conference tourism.
Stressing improved connectivity and quality of life he mentioned completed projects like the coastal road and Atal Setu, and the expanding metro network in Mumbai.
Modi praised the NDA government's initiatives, including youth skill development and job creation tying employment growth to infrastructure development.
