Madhavi Latha, the BJP candidate for MP in Hyderabad, lodged a complaint against Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of AIMIM and also an MP from Hyderabad, for allegedly provoking the sentiments of Hindus during his encounter with a beef seller.
Latha referred to a video circulating online where Owaisi visited a butcher shop during his campaign and said supportively, "Kaat te raho" (keep cutting) and "beef zindabad".
In the video, Owaisi was heard encouraging the butcher to continue his work and expressing support for beef consumption.
Latha argued that such statements could offend a significant portion of the community and might be seen as an attempt to gain electoral advantage by influencing sentiments.
It is also said that there is a fatwa by the Muslim elders that not to cut Holy Cow in India as it hurts the sentiments of the majority people of the nation, but still Owaisis are ignoring that and encouraging the Hyderabadis to consume beef to stir emotions that help them politically.
Latha, who has been trying to connect with the Muslim community by supporting Pasmanda Muslims, has faced backlash for actions perceived as hurtful by minorities when she aimed an arrow allegedly on a dargah in her campaign.
Nirmala Sitharaman, the Union Finance Minister, criticized Owaisi's remarks, calling them inappropriate and stating that such statements were not surprising coming from him or his brother, Akbaruddin Owaisi, who are known for making extreme statements.
