Comments made by Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar about Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, have stirred a political controversy.
During a Maharashtra election campaign rally in Nagpur on Wednesday, Kanhaiya responded to recent remarks made by Devendra Fadnavis, who compared the assembly elections to a "dharma yuddha" (holy war) against "vote jihad." Kanhaiya countered by saying, "It’s our responsibility to protect religion, but their children study at Oxford and Cambridge. The Deputy CM’s wife creating Instagram reels is inappropriate. If protecting religion is essential, then let us all work together for it."
The BJP reacted strongly to his comments, condemning them as disrespectful. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla posted on 'X' (formerly Twitter), saying, "How dare you insult a daughter of Maharashtra? These remarks are an insult to every Marathi woman."
