In a recent interview Congress leader Rahul Gandhi predicted challenges for the BJP in maintaining power after losing its majority for the first time since PM Modi's tenure began in 2014.
He described this as a “tectonic shift” in Indian politics, emphasizing the fragile nature of Modi’s coalition, which now depends on smaller allied parties.
He expressed doubts about the stability of this coalition, suggesting it could easily fall apart if even one ally defects.
Rahul Gandhi pointed out growing internal discontent within the BJP and criticized Modi's use of religious tensions in his campaign. He claimed that the BJP's strategy of spreading hatred had been rejected by voters.
He also highlighted the opposition's efforts stating that despite unfair conditions the INDIA alliance managed a significant performance winning 234 seats against the BJP led NDA's 290 seats.
Reflecting on his Yatras, Gandhi noted that direct engagement with the public influenced many successful campaign ideas.
He concluded that the BJP had been “fatally wounded” by the election results, suggesting that the party’s reliance on creating religious divisions had collapsed.
Rahul Gandhi reiterated "The party that spent the last 10 years talking about Ayodhya has been wiped out in Ayodhya.
The idea of Mr Modi and the image of Mr Modi has been destroyed”.
