There are two phases of polling left with the Modi government eyeing 400 plus seats with its allies whereas the Congress naturally claims an upset on the cards.

Against this backdrop, let’s take a look at how the odds have evolved for the BJP, on average, across the nation.

Before the first phase, the BJP alone was favourite to win 350 seats

After the second phase, BJP was given 310

After the third phase, BJP was given 300

After the fifth phase, BJP was given 306

With two more phases to go, if these estimates by the bookies are any indication, then BJP looks to be forming the government again although 400 seems a distant dream.
