A viral image falsely claims that The News Minute (TNM) predicted a landslide victory for the TDP-led NDA alliance in the upcoming Andhra Pradesh assembly elections. TNM itself confirms that TNM has not released any such exit poll.
The assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh are being held alongside the general elections with results to be declared on June 4th 2024.
The YSRCP led by CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is facing opposition from the NDA alliance which includes TDP, BJP and Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena Party.
The viral graphic shared on Instagram by @Manaanantapurtdp, falsely shows various news channels predicting an NDA victory.
The condemning post by TNM on its official twitter handle revealed that the image was edited from an old TNM article with fake poll numbers.
TNM posted a statement on X clarifying that they have not released any exit poll survey for the Andhra Pradesh assembly election.
They noted that the viral graphic was modified from a 2019 article and emphasized that no agency can publish opinion or exit polls until the election concludes as per the Model Code of Conduct.
The TNM post on X goes like this: "This is to clarify that an old image from our story written in 2019 has been shared falsely claiming that we have made a prediction for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly election. It is to be noted that as per the Model Code of Conduct no agency/news organisation can share any figures/opinion polls/ exit polls until the conclusion of the elections, which is still underway in other parts of the country.”
It is assumed that many fake exit polls are circulating in whatsapp accounts of Andhra people in the benefit of betting industry, as per political circles.
