The ED discovered chats between Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and “hawala operators” related to proceeds of crime in a money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy.
These chats were found on the operators’ devices after Kejriwal refused to share his device passwords.
This investigated information was revealed during a hearing on Kejriwal's petition against his arrest by the ED.
The Supreme Court reserved its judgment but allowed Kejriwal to seek bail from the trial court.
It is known that Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 for money laundering and granted interim bail from May 10 to June 1 for election campaigning with a requirement to surrender on June 2.
The ED charged Kejriwal and the AAP under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act for irregularities in the 2021-22 Delhi excise policy making AAP the first political party accused in such a charge sheet.
An official alleged that Kejriwal facilitated money laundering using his position benefiting AAP with Rs 45 crore out of Rs 100 crore bribes used for the Goa poll campaign.
This is the eighth charge sheet filed by the ED in this case since November 2022.
