Police reported on Friday that a case has been filed against K Annamalai, the BJP state President and Coimbatore candidate, along with some members of his party for an alleged violation of campaign time regulations.
A confrontation arose between DMK workers, their allies from the Left parties, and BJP members due to the latter's campaigning beyond the designated time set by the Election Commission on Thursday night in the Avarampalayam area.
Peelamedu police took action based on a complaint filed by a DMK member and registered cases against four BJP officials under various sections of the IPC.
Additionally, local DMK officials petitioned the district collector urging action against the BJP candidate for purportedly extending campaigning activities beyond the Election Commission's stipulated deadline.
