The Delhi Police reported that the Ministry of Home Affairs in Delhi's North Block received a bomb threat via email at 3:30 PM.
A bomb disposal squad and fire tenders conducted a thorough search but found nothing suspicious concluding the threat was a hoax.
This incident is part of a series of hoax bomb threats sent to schools, airports, hospitals and jails in Delhi and other cities like Jaipur, Lucknow, Kanpur and Ahmedabad.
Following a similar hoax that led to evacuations at over 150 schools in Delhi the police launched an investigation.
The threat email believed to be sent from a Russian mail.ru server possibly originated from Budapest.
The Delhi Police plans to seek Interpol's help to trace the email sender using a VPN.
On May 6 the Union home ministry emphasized the need for detailed protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for such threats.
The home secretary advised Delhi Police and schools to coordinate to prevent unnecessary panic and recommended enhancing security measures including CCTV cameras and regular email monitoring.
The Delhi government also issued an advisory to educational institutions to check official emails promptly after the hoax threat.
