There have been reports of a serious rift between Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his Deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya.
This has become all the more pronounced after the recent disappointing performance of the BJP in the recent Lok Sabha elections in the State.
Even today, in a veiled attack at Adityanath, Maurya put out a post on Twitter saying that elections are won because of the Party and not governance.
He said the BJP became overconfident in the recent elections but would bounce back and it would be only on the strength of the Party.
Meanwhile, in a controversial move, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh Anandiben Patel has ordered the premature remission of Uday Bhan Karwaria.
He, along with his brothers Kapil Muni Karwaria and Suraj Bhan Karwaria, are currently serving life sentences in Prayagraj’s Naini central jail.
The brothers were jailed in connection with the murder of Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Jawahar Yadav alias Pandit in August 1996 — a crime in which an AK-47 was believed to have been used for the first time in Allahabad.
Uday Bhan is the son of Bhukkal Maharaj, a notorious don in Uttar Pradesh who ruled with an iron fist. In fact, dreaded gangster Atiq Ahmed who was killed recently was a protégé of Bhukkal Maharaj.
Later, differences cropped up between Atiq Ahmed and Bhukkal Maharaj and Atiq had the latter killed.
Jawahar Yadav was another opponent to Bhukkal Maharaj. After his father’s murder, Uday Bhan vowed revenge on Atiq Ahmed and Jawahar Yadav.
Uday Bhan’s release after eight years in jail is expected to stem the influence of Keshav Prasad Maurya in Prayagraj (Allahabad). Uday Bhan’s family also has a lot of clout in the region that is only bound to increase with his release.
In releasing the Brahmin don, Yogi Adityanath has sent a clear message to Maurya.
