In a shocking incident in Punjab's Ludhiana, a woman and her three daughters were publicly humiliated over allegations of theft. The factory owner and manager accused them of stealing garments from the garment factory where they worked. As a form of punishment, their faces were smeared with black paint, and placards reading "I am a thief, I admit my mistake" were hung around their necks. They were then paraded through the factory premises.
This incident, which occurred in the industrial area of Bahadurke Road, sparked outrage after a video clip of the act went viral on social media. Following public backlash, the police took swift action. A case was registered against the factory owner, Parvinder Singh, manager Manpreet Singh, and Mohammad Kaif, who recorded and shared the video. Two of the accused have been arrested so far, according to police officials.
Kanwardeep Singh, Chairman of the Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, expressed deep concern over the incident, comparing the punishment to "Taliban-style justice." He directed the police commissioner to take strict action against those responsible for violating children's rights.
The Punjab State Women’s Commission has also condemned the act, calling for harsh penalties against the culprits and ensuring justice for the victims.
