Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has called on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to withdraw his support from the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) in protest against the BJP government's refusal to allow tributes to be paid to socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan. On Friday, the anniversary of Jayaprakash Narayan’s birth, the Samajwadi Party had planned to pay respects at his statue at the Jayaprakash Narayan International Centre (JPNIC) in Lucknow. However, the police denied permission for the event.
In response, SP workers gathered outside Akhilesh Yadav’s residence, protesting against the BJP. Ultimately, Akhilesh paid tribute to Jayaprakash Narayan with a statue mounted on a vehicle.
Referring to Nitish Kumar, Akhilesh made critical remarks, saying, "The Bihar Chief Minister often speaks about Jayaprakash Narayan, as he rose to political prominence through the socialist and anti-Emergency movement led by him. Nitish Kumar should withdraw support from a government that obstructed tributes to Jayaprakash Narayan."
In response, JD(U) leader KC Tyagi countered Akhilesh's remarks, reminding him that Jayaprakash Narayan opposed the Emergency imposed by Congress, and suggesting that Akhilesh first withdraw his own support from the Congress.
