Recent encounters have been taking place in the forests of Chhattisgarh over the past few days. As part of anti-Naxal operations, security forces and Maoists have been engaged in gunfights, resulting in the deaths of several Maoists.
In this context, Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently addressed the issue of Maoist elimination. He stated that the NDA government is adopting a strict policy to eradicate Naxalism in India. He emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has resolved to eliminate Maoist violence and ideology to establish peace in the country. As part of this effort, the government is working towards building a "Secure India."
Decline in Naxal-Affected Districts
Amit Shah said, "Today, the number of Naxal-affected districts in India has reduced from 12 to 6, marking a new milestone. The Modi government is following a zero-tolerance policy against Naxalism. PM Modi has decided to eliminate Maoist violence and ideology to establish peace. As part of this mission, we are working towards a Secure India. By March 2026, we will completely wipe out Naxalism."
According to reports by the Ministry of Home Affairs, there are currently 12 Naxal-affected districts in the country. Official records show that while there were 35 such districts in 2015, the number decreased to 30 by 2018 and further dropped to 25 by 2021. Recently, this number has been reduced to just six.
Amit Shah’s Visit to Chhattisgarh and Jammu & Kashmir
Meanwhile, Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Chhattisgarh on April 4 and 5 to review anti-Naxal operations in the state. High-level meetings will be held during his visit. Authorities have indicated that Shah will assess the ongoing anti-Naxal operations in the state.
