UPI Glitch: Disrupts Payments Throughout India

Millions of digital payment users across India faced problems on April 12, 2025, as UPI services crashed. Major apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, and several bank UPI systems experienced outages, leaving users unable to make or receive payments. Many people shared their frustration online due to failed transactions and login troubles.

The disruption began early in the morning and grew worse by 8 AM IST. It wasn’t limited to one app or bank—multiple services were affected. While PhonePe and Google Pay were hit hard, Paytm saw fewer issues. Banks like HDFC and Kotak Mahindra also reported scheduled maintenance during the same time, which added to the confusion.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) confirmed that UPI was experiencing technical difficulties. They assured users that the issue was being resolved and apologized for the inconvenience caused, asking for patience as teams worked on restoring services.
