Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin extended Diwali wishes, adding a twist by directing them specifically to "those who believe." This message, delivered in the context of DMK’s platinum jubilee celebrations, prompted a response from BJP leader Narayanan Thirupathi, who replied, "My wishes to those who don’t believe — may they live like Narakasura."
In Northern India, Diwali marks Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after his exile, while in the South, it symbolizes Lord Krishna and Satyabhama’s victory over the demon king Narakasura.
DMK leaders, generally known for their rationalist principles, tend to avoid festive greetings, a tradition observed by the late DMK leader M. Karunanidhi as well. However, Udhayanidhi’s greetings, directed to believers, have reignited the BJP's ongoing critique of DMK's stance on Hindu festivals.
