Uddhav's Action On Five Rebel Leaders

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray expelled five rebel leaders on Tuesday for acting against the party after they did not withdraw their nominations for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections on November 20. The expelled leaders include Bhiwandi East MLA Rupesh Mhatre, Vishwas Nandekar, Chandrakant Ghugul, Sanjay Awari, and Prasad Thackeray.

In total, 14 leaders from the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, which includes Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP, had filed nominations against party orders. Some notable withdrawals include Congress’ Mukhtar Shaikh, who stepped down to support the official candidate in Pune. Additionally, Madhurima Raje Chhatrapati withdrew from Kolhapur North, leaving Congress without representation in that area.

Overall, 4,140 candidates remain in the race for the 288 Maharashtra assembly seats, with 2,938 candidates having withdrawn their nominations. The elections will be held on November 20, with results announced on November 23.
