Tragic Road Accident on the Way to Kumbh Mela: 10 Dead, 19 Injured

A horrific road accident occurred in the Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh, resulting in the death of ten devotees on the spot, while 19 others sustained serious injuries. Upon receiving information about the incident, the police rushed to the scene and transported the injured to nearby hospitals. The authorities have taken steps to hand over the bodies to their respective families. This tragic incident took place on Friday night on the highway connecting Prayagraj to Mirzapur.

The accident happened when a Bolero vehicle, filled with devotees, collided with a speeding bus. As a result, all ten passengers in the Bolero lost their lives on the spot. The deceased were identified as residents of Korba district in Chhattisgarh. They were on their way to the Maha Kumbh Mela for the sacred Sangam bath. Meanwhile, 19 passengers traveling in the bus were also injured. These passengers, from Rajgarh district in Madhya Pradesh, were heading to Varanasi. The injured were immediately shifted to the Community Health Center (CHC) in Ramnagar, where they are receiving medical assistance.

Eyewitnesses reported that while the bus was moving to the side of the road, the speeding Bolero crashed into it. Radmal, a devotee traveling in the bus, recounted the terrifying experience, stating that many passengers were asleep when the accident occurred. The deceased were identified as Ishwari Prasad Jaiswal, Santosh Soni, Bhagirathi Jaiswal, Somnath, Ajay Banjare, Saurabh Kumar Soni, Ganga Das Verma, Shiva Rajput, Deepak Verma, and Raju Sahu. All of them belonged to the Korba district of Chhattisgarh. The police have informed their families about the tragic loss.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences on social media, mourning the loss of lives and extending his sympathies to the bereaved families. He assured that the government would support the affected families and instructed district officials to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured.
