The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has extended its support to the "One Nation, One Election" Bill (Jamili Elections Bill) introduced in the Lok Sabha. The party stated that this approach would simplify the election process across the country.
Union Minister for Communications, Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, remarked that conducting simultaneous elections would reduce expenses significantly and also lead to an increase in voter turnout. He estimated that the cost of conducting elections nationwide could reach approximately Rs 1 lakh crore, but Jamili elections could cut these expenses. The Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde has also backed the bill.
Union Minister Amit Shah stated that during discussions on the Jamili Bill in the Union Cabinet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested referring the bill to a parliamentary-level committee for review. These remarks came amid demands from opposition parties to withdraw the bill. IUML leader E.T. Mohammed Basheer and RSP MP N.K. Premachandran opposed the bill during the discussions
