Tamil Nadu: Drunken Man Steals Government Bus

A 33-year-old car interior designer, Abraham from Besant Nagar, stole a Chennai MTC bus from the Thiruvanmiyur bus stand early on 13 February. He drove the Route 109 bus and crashed it into a concrete structure near the Akkarai checkpost around 2 am. A cement mixer truck was involved in the accident but was undamaged. The truck driver alerted the police, who found Abraham still in the driver’s seat.

The Greater Chennai Police confirmed his arrest and recovery of the bus. According to officials, Abraham stole the vehicle to seek revenge after an argument with a bus conductor over a monetary dispute the previous day. Allegedly, he had consumed alcohol before taking the unattended bus while the station guard was asleep.

A depot employee revealed that bus keys are often left inside vehicles, making theft easier. MTC officials are now investigating the security lapse to prevent similar incidents.
