Bengaluru: After Syed Naseer Hussain emerged victorious in the Rajya Sabha election held in Bengaluru on Tuesday, some of his supporters gathered around him and reportedly raised “Zindabad Zindabad Pakistan Zindabad” slogans in Vidhana Soudha. This act was purportedly in response to the “Jai Bhavani” slogans raised by supporters of newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha member Narayana Bhandange.
Syed Naseer Hussain, a close aide of the president of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Mallikarjun Kharge, found himself amidst controversy due to these slogans.
According to eyewitnesses, the slogans were chanted by individuals surrounding Syed Naseer Hussain in retaliation to the slogans of BJP Rajya Sabha member Narayana Bhandage's supporters. As jubilation ensued and Hussain was lifted and garlanded by his supporters, some of them shouted slogans in favor of Pakistan.
When reporters questioned Syed Naseer Hussain about the slogans raised by his supporters in favor of Pakistan during his victory celebration, he reacted angrily and drove the reporters away, saying, “Hey, Go away.” Later, when intercepted by reporters in Vidhana Soudha, Hussain deflected responsibility, stating, “Go and catch them. Why do you ask me?”
BJP MLA and former minister Sunil Kumar suggested that the Congress party should take responsibility for the slogan shouting in favor of Pakistan.
