Sukhbir Singh Badal has resigned from his position as the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). This announcement was made by party spokesperson Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema.
The resignation follows recent developments where Sikh religious leaders declared Sukhbir Singh Badal as "Tankhaiya" (excommunicated) for alleged violations of Sikh religious principles. If found guilty in the case, he could face punishment according to Sikh religious customs.
In addition, Sukhbir Singh Badal had recently undergone surgery on his right leg. Dr. Cheema confirmed that he had submitted his resignation to the party's working committee, paving the way for the election of a new party president. Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed his gratitude to the party leaders and workers who had supported his leadership, as per Dr. Cheema's statement.
