Students Protest Over UP PSC Exam Schedule, Demand Single Shift

Students in Uttar Pradesh have expressed strong objections to the exam schedule announced by the Public Service Commission (PSC), calling for exams to be held in a single shift on the same day. Protests were organized in front of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission office, where students clashed with police who had set up barricades to stop them.

The PSC had earlier announced that the Provincial Civil Services (PCS) prelims exam would be held over two days, December 7 and 8, in two shifts: morning (9:30 AM to 11:30 AM) and afternoon (2:30 PM to 4:30 PM). In addition, exams for the posts of Review and Assistant Review Officer would be held on December 22 and 23. The Commission stated that exams would be conducted in centers with tight security to prevent any irregularities.

However, students are concerned that holding the exams in multiple shifts over two days increases the chances of paper leaks and unfair practices. They have demanded that the exams be conducted in a single shift on a single day.

On Thursday morning, students in Prayagraj gathered in large numbers at the PSC office and clashed with police, attempting to break through the barricades. Following the protests, 12 individuals were charged with vandalism by the police.

Opposition parties have also criticized the handling of the protests, with SP president Akhilesh Yadav questioning whether Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath would now bulldoze students' homes as well.

In response to the protests, the government has decided to reconsider the matter. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has instructed officials to find a peaceful solution. The Public Service Commission has convened a meeting to discuss the issue and explore possible solutions.
