Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain was released from Tihar Jail on Friday after a lengthy two-year hiatus. Accompanied by his wife, he visited the Jain temple in Saraswati Vihar, Delhi, where the couple offered special prayers.
Satyendar Jain was arrested on May 30, 2022, in a money laundering case and had been under judicial remand by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He was granted temporary bail by the Supreme Court due to health issues but later returned to jail. After two long years, the Delhi court finally granted him bail on Friday.
The court noted that the decision to grant bail was based on the prolonged investigation and the time he had already spent in custody. The ED had arrested Jain in connection with transactions involving a company based in Kolkata related to the money laundering case.
Investigations revealed that during 2015-16, Jain’s companies allegedly received nearly Rs 4.81 crores from shell companies. The ED initiated the inquiry based on a case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and subsequently attached assets valued at Rs 4.81 crores belonging to Jain and his family members.
