Snacks Served to Guests Lead to Food Poisoning for 200 People

A shocking incident took place in Assam's Golaghat district, where nearly 200 people fell ill after consuming snacks at an event. Pradeep Gogoi organized a memorial event for his recently deceased mother on Saturday. Traditional Assamese snack "Jalpaan," made of puffed rice and cream, was served to the relatives attending the event.

Shortly after consuming the snacks, guests began feeling unwell and were rushed to hospitals, suffering from stomach pain, headaches, vomiting, and diarrhea. Local officials reported that 53 people were admitted to hospitals in Sarupathar town and Uriamghat, with two in critical condition, later shifted to Jorhat Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

On Sunday, most of the hospitalized individuals showed improvement and were discharged, while another 150 people recovered at home with mild symptoms. Health authorities are closely monitoring their condition.

Sarupathar MLA Biswajit Phukan visited the hospital to check on the food poisoning victims. Local health officials set up a medical camp in the village and conducted health checkups. Medical staff also visited homes to assess the health of those who consumed the snacks and reported no further signs of food poisoning.
