On Wednesday, the Waqf Amendment Bill was presented in the Lok Sabha. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced the bill, after which Congress's Gaurav Gogoi, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, and then Akhilesh Yadav participated in the discussion.
During the debate on the Waqf Amendment Bill (Ummid Act), a humorous exchange of accusations and counter-accusations took place between Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. While discussing the Waqf Bill, Akhilesh took a jibe at the delay in the election of the new president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In response, Shah countered by referring to dynastic politics, saying, "You will remain president of your party for the next 25 years. We have to choose our president from among the workers, so it takes time."
He further said, "You claim to be the world's largest party, but you still haven't been able to elect your president." The house erupted in laughter at this remark. Amit Shah, in a lighthearted manner, responded, saying, "Since Akhilesh Ji said this with a smile, I will also reply with a smile. You only have to choose your president from family members, but we have to choose ours democratically from among our millions of registered members. That’s why it takes us some time."
Now, let's take a look at what Akhilesh had to say:
While discussing the Waqf Amendment Bill, Akhilesh Yadav mocked the BJP, saying, "The party that calls itself the world's largest party still hasn't been able to choose its national president."
Amit Shah’s Sharp Retort
In response, Home Minister Amit Shah took a jibe, saying, "In all the parties I see, their national presidents are chosen by a few family members. But we have to choose ours from 12-13 crore members through a process, which takes time. In your case, it won't take much time. I am saying you will remain president for the next 25 years." Akhilesh Yadav smiled at Amit Shah's comment.
