The Supreme Court has granted relief to DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, directing that no new cases be registered against him over his remarks on Sanatana Dharma.
Udhayanidhi Stalin's comments on Sanatana Dharma sparked widespread controversy, drawing severe criticism from Hindu organizations and various individuals. His remarks also led to multiple FIRs being filed against him across several states. Recently, another case was registered in Bihar regarding the same issue, prompting Stalin to approach the Supreme Court.
Stalin filed a petition requesting the consolidation of multiple FIRs lodged against him across different states. A Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar heard the petition on Thursday and ruled that no fresh cases should be filed against him on this matter without the court's approval.
In 2023, during an event in Chennai, Udhayanidhi Stalin likened Sanatana Dharma to diseases like dengue and malaria, stating that it should be eradicated. His comments triggered nationwide outrage, with many demanding an apology. However, Stalin remained firm on his stance, declaring that he would not apologize for his remarks.
