Sambhal Tensions Rise Amid Mosque Survey

Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP for using power to fuel Hindu-Muslim divisions, following deadly clashes in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal over a court ordered survey of a Mughal era mosque. The violence which claimed four lives saw protesters and police clash amidst allegations of bias and inadequate government action. Gandhi accused the administration of exacerbating tensions by ignoring all parties involved, holding the BJP responsible.

He urged the Supreme Court to intervene for justice, condemning the BJP’s divisive politics as harmful to national unity. Appealing for peace, Gandhi emphasized unity and adherence to constitutional values over communal discord.

Post-violence, Sambhal’s administration imposed prohibitory orders, suspended internet services, and closed schools to maintain order. Protesters had set vehicles ablaze and clashed with security forces. The Congress alleged the violence was a “planned conspiracy” by the BJP-RSS to incite unrest, as tensions had been rising since the mosque survey began on November 19.
