The security for Mohan Bhagwat, head of the RSS has been upgraded from Z-Plus to the Advanced Security Liaison (ASL) protocol matching the security level of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. This decision was made following a new risk assessment ahead of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections where the RSS is influential.
It was noted that Bhagwat's security could be inadequate in states ruled by non BJP parties where threats are higher. The assessment highlighted dangers from various groups including radical Islamist organizations based on intelligence reports. Bhagwat is one of ten individuals in India with "Z-Plus" security provided by CISF personnel, who protect a total of 200 individuals nationwide.
The security upgrade includes additional anti sabotage checks, multi-layered security and the use of specially designed aircraft. This level of security also requires coordination with local agencies such as police and healthcare institutions to ensure comprehensive protection.
