Report on Unusual Disease Causing Hair Loss in Maharashtra

An unusual disease spread in Maharashtra's Buldhana district in December, causing sudden hair loss among the residents, with both children and adults, including women, experiencing bald patches. Within two months, 279 people across 18 villages reported hair loss. A medical report regarding this case was released on Tuesday.

According to initial findings, the wheat supplied from Punjab and Haryana is believed to be the cause of the hair loss among the locals. These wheat grains were found to contain high levels of selenium. The wheat consumed by the people in the region was sourced from Punjab and Haryana and distributed through ration shops in Maharashtra.

Research revealed that the wheat from Punjab and Haryana contained 600 times more selenium compared to locally grown wheat in Maharashtra, as indicated in the report.
