Rahul Gandhi On Castes And Reservations

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi reaffirmed his commitment to a caste census in Telangana aiming to make it a model for the entire country. Describing caste discrimination in India as one of the harshest globally he pledged to challenge the 50% cap on reservations. Gandhi emphasized that a caste census is essential to understanding discrimination's scope assuring that Telangana would lead by example.

Acknowledging potential flaws in Telangana’s upcoming caste survey Gandhi said these would be addressed. Criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he questioned why the PM avoids revealing the number of Dalits, OBCs and Adivasis in top sectors like corporate, media and judiciary.

In his parliamentary statements and social media posts, Gandhi has repeatedly endorsed a caste census, promising that no obstacles would stop its progress. For the 2024 elections Congress pledged a national socio-economic and caste census along with a constitutional amendment to raise the 50% reservation cap for marginalized communities.
