Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has made sensational allegations against the Central Election Commission. He claimed that there are numerous discrepancies in the voter lists, with the Commission showing more voters than those officially registered. Rahul Gandhi stated that his party conducted a study on the voter list during the recent Maharashtra elections, revealing several irregularities.
Speaking to the media in Delhi alongside leaders from the NCP (Sharad Pawar) and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) factions, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the voter list released by the Election Commission has more names than the actual number of registered voters. He claimed that despite multiple complaints to the Commission about these discrepancies, no action has been taken. He urged the Election Commission to conduct a transparent investigation into the irregularities in Maharashtra's voter list.
Rahul Gandhi pointed out that after the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, a large number of new voters were registered. He questioned how 39 lakh new voters were added in just five months before the Assembly elections, compared to 32 lakh new voters registered between the 2019 Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He alleged that the BJP, with the help of the Election Commission, is manipulating voter lists to defeat the opposition.
He further claimed that in constituencies where the INDIA alliance won in the Lok Sabha elections, a higher number of new voters were registered in the corresponding Assembly segments. Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of orchestrating a conspiracy to influence elections across all states by inflating voter lists.
The allegations come a day before the Delhi election results, adding intrigue to the political atmosphere. The BJP's response to these allegations remains to be seen. In the recent Maharashtra Assembly elections, the NDA alliance secured a massive victory, while the INDIA alliance, which won most Lok Sabha seats, faced a significant defeat in the state polls. Rahul Gandhi's claims have sparked a fresh political controversy ahead of the Delhi results.
