Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Modi after Delhi Police detained around 120 people from Ladakh including climate activist Sonam Wangchuk who were peacefully marching to Delhi seeking sixth schedule status for Ladakh.
Despite prohibitory orders the group was detained at the Singhu border after refusing to leave. Gandhi condemned the detention calling it "unacceptable" and comparing it to the treatment of farmers during previous protests. He stressed that Modi would eventually have to listen to Ladakh's demands. Women were not detained and the police cited law and order concerns enforcing a ban on gatherings in central Delhi. Wangchuk shared his experience on Instagram showing the police presence and expressing concern over the heavy deployment of forces.
The march led by the Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance aimed to push for Ladakh’s statehood and constitutional rights. The restrictions will remain in place until October 5.
