Protesters Attack Ministers' and MLAs' Homes in Outrage

Protests erupt over the kidnapping and murder of women and children in Manipur. Demonstrators attacked the homes of ministers and MLAs, demanding justice for the victims. This incident comes amidst ongoing clashes between the Kuki and Meitei communities in the state.

Last week, Kuki militants attacked Bokobera in Jiribam, kidnapping several women and children. In an ensuing encounter with security forces, ten Kuki militants were killed. Tragically, the militants brutally murdered six individuals from the same family, including women and children. On Friday night, three bodies, including those of a woman and a child, were found near a river.

Angered by the killings, members of the Meitei community staged massive protests in Imphal on Saturday, demanding justice. Protesters attacked the homes of two ministers and three MLAs, including Health and Family Welfare Minister Sapam Ranjan's residence.

In Sagolband, West Imphal, demonstrators gathered outside the residence of BJP MLA RK Imo, the son-in-law of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, demanding government action and the arrest of the culprits. Similarly, protesters approached the residence of independent MLA Sapam Nishikant Singh in the Keishamthong constituency but were informed of his absence. They later vandalized the office building of a newspaper owned by him.

In response to the unrest, indefinite prohibitory orders were imposed in several districts, including Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Kangpokpi, and Churachandpur. Internet and mobile data services were suspended for two days to curb further violence.
