Suspended JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport facing allegations of sexually abusing multiple women.
Arriving from Munich, the 33 year old was taken to the CID office for interrogation and will be presented before a Special Court where the SIT will likely seek custody for further questioning.
The SIT may also conduct a potency test on Prajwal to determine his capability of committing sexual assault. Prajwal and his mother, Bhavani Revanna, are scheduled for a bail hearing.
While Prajwal faces three sexual abuse cases, Bhavani has sought anticipatory bail in a related kidnapping case. Bhavani's husband MLA HD Revanna has also been accused of sexual harassment and was released on bail.
Prajwal's lawyer stated that he is cooperating fully with the investigation and requested no media trial.
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed Prajwal's arrest and assured legal procedures including medical examinations and judicial presentation would follow.
The minister also encouraged other victims to come forward and promised them protection.
Prajwal left for Germany on April 27, a day after explicit videos allegedly involving him circulated in Hassan.
Interpol issued a Blue Corner Notice to locate him and an arrest warrant was issued on May 18.
The Karnataka government has urged the Centre to cancel his diplomatic passport and the Ministry of External Affairs has issued a show cause notice to Prajwal.
