Maharashtra Minister Dharmaraobaba Atram a senior NCP leader has controversially urged voters to "throw" his daughter Bhagyashree and her husband Rituraj Halgekar into the Pranhita river accusing them of treachery. This remark followed reports that Bhagyashree might join a rival NCP faction led by Sharad Pawar which Atram claims aims to undermine him.
Atram made these comments during a public event with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar who was promoting government welfare schemes. Atram expressed his frustration over Bhagyashree’s potential switch alleging that the Sharad Pawar faction wants to divide his family and challenge his political position. He warned that despite the defection of his daughter his other family members remain loyal and support him.
Ajit Pawar, who previously left his uncle's faction to ally with the BJP and Shiv Sena appealed to Bhagyashree to reconsider and stay with her father advising her against making a political mistake.
