In recognition of his efforts to strengthen India-Sri Lanka relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been awarded the prestigious "Mitra Vibhushan" award by the Sri Lankan government. This marks the 22nd international award conferred upon Prime Minister Modi. The Mitra Vibhushan award is the highest civilian honor presented by the Sri Lankan government to heads of state.
Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa presented the prestigious award to Prime Minister Modi during a joint press conference in Colombo. The award was specifically designed to honor the leaders of countries who maintain friendly relations with Sri Lanka.
"I am happy to announce that we have decided to award the 'Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhushan' to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We firmly believe that Prime Minister Modi truly deserves this honor," said Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa.
Upon receiving the award, Prime Minister Modi stated that this recognition is not just a personal honor, but one that belongs to the 140 crore people of India. He expressed gratitude to the Sri Lankan President, the government, and the people of Sri Lanka for bestowing this honor upon him. Prime Minister Modi further emphasized that this award stands as a testament to the long-standing and strong friendship between the two neighboring countries.
