Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded Kerala-born rapper Sooraj Cherukat, known as Hanumankind, for showcasing India’s cultural heritage through his song Run It Up. Speaking on Mann Ki Baat, Modi highlighted how the song incorporates traditional martial arts like Kalaripayattu, Gatka, and Thang-Ta, helping global audiences discover India’s rich traditions.
Run It Up has topped the Official Asian Music Chart for three weeks and follows Hanumankind’s hit Big Dawgs, which briefly surpassed Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us on Spotify’s Top 50. The song’s music video celebrates India’s folk traditions and martial arts, further elevating its global appeal.
Born in Malappuram in 1992, Hanumankind launched his career in 2019 with Daily Dose and gained fame after performing at NH7 Weekender. His stage name reflects his admiration for Lord Hanuman and humanity. His multicultural upbringing across Nigeria, Egypt, Dubai, and the U.S. shaped his unique musical style.
