Former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is alleging that the Hooda family of the Congress party is scheming against him by using wrestlers as pawns. He compares this to a situation in the Mahabharata where Draupadi was put at stake during a game of dice.
Brij Bhushan Singh, who was accused of sexual assault by female wrestlers last year criticized the protest led by wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik claiming it was manipulated by Congress leaders like Deepender Hooda and Priyanka Gandhi.
He alleged that the wrestlers’ protest was a political ploy to control the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). Singh, who had to step down from the WFI due to the scandal and now faces criminal charges claimed that Punia’s mental state had worsened and questioned his participation in the Asian Games.
Following his ouster Singh’s ally Sanjay Singh took over the WFI, but the federation has yet to be officially recognized by the sports ministry. Meanwhile Phogat and Punia recently joined Congress, with Phogat running in the Haryana Assembly elections.
