Number of Devotees Reaches 62 Crores

Initially, it was estimated that 40 crore people would attend the event. Later, this estimate was revised to 50 crore. However, the number of devotees who took a holy dip in the Maha Kumbh Mela has reached a staggering 62 crore.

The spiritual event, which began on January 13 in Prayagraj, saw 62 crore devotees take the sacred dip, as announced by the Uttar Pradesh government until yesterday. It is expected that at least another 2 crore devotees will arrive in the remaining days.

This Kumbh Mela, which occurs once every 144 years, has attracted devotees from 73 countries, as per the government. Around 50 lakh devotees from Nepal alone performed the sacred bath at the Triveni Sangam.

On the other hand, with the increased crowd, the people of Prayagraj are facing hardships. They say that last year, the roads were dug up, constructions were made, and various arrangements were made, causing a lot of trouble. Now, with the arrival of crores of devotees, the situation has become even more difficult.

Residents of Prayagraj say they are unable to carry out their daily routines. They are unable to step outside their homes, and there is no space to walk anywhere. Outsiders, coming in large groups with their vehicles, have completely disrupted the city. Locals complain that there is literally no space to move around.

As the Maha Kumbh Mela is coming to an end, the people of Prayagraj are expressing relief. They say that they can now finally breathe a sigh of relief. Indeed, how would it feel if 62 crore people descended upon one city? That is the current situation in Prayagraj
