New BJP President by the End of April

By the end of April, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will have a new national president. According to sources, the election process for the new president will begin immediately after the current Parliament session concludes. In the coming week, the names of the state presidents for Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and other remaining states are expected to be announced, as per reports in the national media.

As per the party's constitution, before starting the process of electing the national president, at least half of the state units must complete their organizational elections. In this regard, the ongoing organizational elections are progressing smoothly, according to BJP sources. After the announcement of the names of the 19 state presidents, the process for electing the next national president will begin. It is expected that this process will be completed by the end of this month. The sources revealed that by the end of April, the BJP will have a new president, succeeding JP Nadda.

Currently, JP Nadda is serving as the national president of BJP, having assumed the role in 2020. Recently, after the NDA coalition came to power for the third time at the center, Nadda was included in the central cabinet as a minister. At present, he holds the position of BJP national president as well as the Union Health Minister. The tenure of the party president is three years, and his tenure was extended recently in view of the 2024 general elections.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee served as BJP’s first president from 1980 to 1986. Lal Krishna Advani held the position of party president multiple times from 1986-1990, 1993-1998, and 2004-2005. Murli Manohar Joshi served from 1991 to 1993, Kushabhau Thakre from 1998 to 2000, Bangaru Laxman from 2000 to 2001, K. Janakiram Murthy from 2001 to 2002, M. Venkaiah Naidu from 2002 to 2004, Rajnath Singh from 2005 to 2009 and again from 2013 to 2014, Nitin Gadkari from 2010 to 2013, Amit Shah from 2014 to 2017, and from 2017 to 2020. JP Nadda was elected as the national president of BJP on January 20, 2020, and has been in office since then.
