Mustafabad To Be Changed As Shivpuri

Newly elected BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht has announced plans to rename Mustafabad to Shivpuri or Shiv Vihar, citing reluctance among educated people to settle in the area due to its current name.

Bisht, a five-time MLA from Karawal Nagar, was given Mustafabad to contest in the Delhi Assembly elections, where he secured victory by 85,215 votes over AAP’s Adeel Ahmad Khan and AIMIM’s Tahir Hussain. Initially disappointed with his seat change, he later expressed confidence in winning.

Bisht claimed that official data reports 45% Muslims in Mustafabad, but he estimates the number to be 60%, with Hindus at 40%. He stated that a census would be conducted, followed by the name change. Mustafabad was among the worst-hit areas during the 2020 Delhi riots, which were triggered by the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), causing destruction, displacement, and loss of lives.
