PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti criticized the decision allowing surveys of religious sites including the claim of a Shiva temple within Ajmer Sharif Dargah. She referred to the 1991 Supreme Court ruling preserving the status of religious places as of 1947 lamenting that recent judicial decisions have sparked searches for Shivlings in mosques and now even shrines like Ajmer Sharif.
Highlighting the shrine’s historical and inclusive significance she noted it is visited by more Hindus than Muslims. Mufti warned that such actions could escalate to searches in Muslims' homes further fueling divisions akin to 1947's partition.
She accused the government of undermining India’s secular fabric and fostering Hindu-Muslim discord attributing blame to the role of an ex-Chief Justice. "This approach shakes the country’s foundations and incites violence," she remarked, urging a return to unity and constitutional values.
